What’s a Mason

Freemasonry is thought to be the oldest organized fraternity in the world. "e;The exact inception of Masons is not known. The earliest recorded ‘making’ of a Freemason in England is that of Elias Ashmole in 1646. Organized Freemasonry began with the founding of the Grand Lodge of England in 24 June 1717, the first Grand Lodge in the world. Ireland followed in 1725 and Scotland in 1736.&quoe; (www.southwalesmason.com/faqs)

Freemasonry as a fraternity believes in friendship, morality and brotherly love; dedicated to the human progress making good men even better. Freemasonry is a place where men can get together with the goal of personal growth through philanthropy and ritual work; which teaches men life lessons that make them better brothers, fathers and husbands. Discussions and debates surrounding religion and politics are not permitted in a Masonic Lodge.

There are a few criteria that all Masons must meet to become a Freemason:

  • You must be a man.
  • You must be free born.
  • You must believe in a Supreme Being or Deity.
  • You must be of good standing in your community and be recommended by another Freemason. (You can inquire about Masons in our lodge and meet the Brethren. From this meeting you can be recommended to become a Mason. You do not have to know a Mason presently to become one)

To become a Mason you will need to fill out a petition to the lodge and be recommended by two Brother Masons.
